Apply UK Vehicle Tax Disc

www.Direct.gov.uk/TaxDisc is the official UK website of DVLA. Is this your first time paying road tax for your UK registered vehicle?  Are you applying for a vehicle tax disc? If this is your desire, simply go to DVLA’s vehicle online services.  Alternatively just give a call and you will expect to receive your tax disc in a few days.

Why do you pay for a tax disc in UK?

The UK tax rule requires each vehicle keeper to pay road tax for his vehicle used or kept on the public road. Upon paying tax for your vehicle, you will receive a tax disc. It is mandatory to display your tax disc on the windscreen of your vehicle as a certificate of tax payment.

What are the steps to apply for a Tax Disc?

  • You have to be the registered owner of the vehicle
  • You must keep an up to date and accurate information of your particulars and any vehicle changes on DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency).
  • You are to own a Vehicle License Application/Statutory Off Road Notification (V11 Reminder) or the V5C Registration Certificate (Log Book) with the correct corresponding address on it.
  • Your vehicle needs to have a valid MOT/GVT test certificate on the date when the tax disc comes into effect or must not be kept for more than 3 years.
  • You need to have a valid insurance for the use of your vehicle on the date when the tax disc comes into effect.
  • A valid debit or credit card. There is no additional charge for using a debit card, but an additional £2.50 will be charged for using a credit card.
  • To apply for disability exemption, you must have a valid DLA404.

For Online Application:
  • Logon to DVLA’s vehicle online services.  Click on “Apply on a tax disc NOW” button.
  • Enter the 16 digit reference number on your V11 reminder.
  • Enter the 11 digit reference number on your Registration Document/Certificate.
  • Enter your vehicle registration number (i.e. numberplate).
  • Follow the site's instructions till you complete the application.
